Earn more than a three-pointer from this rising star as Subido dribbles and shoots the ball in his final season as a striving student-athlete inside the walls of St. Raymund’s.
As an integral part of the Commerce community, students strive to be the best in our respective fields, and eventually become refined business leaders, swooping over every difficult obstacle there is. Not only does Renzo Subido exhibit this feature, but he also goes further beyond.
As an eight-year-old kid, Henri Lorenzo P. Subido, or best known as Renzo Subido, had his sights aimed at the basketball ring when his father urged him to dribble the ball, handing over the torch of unlimited possibilities to the young successor. Before the courts welcomed Renzo, his father used to play for the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons alongside his teammate, Benjie Paras, with his early exposure inside the court it inspired him to instantly follow the steps of his idol. From then on, he said to himself, “Why not [pursue] this sport?” and thus his three-pointer scores have added the playmaker in our roster.
This tiger cub, now almost ready to plow into professional games, has relished the perks from the University of Santo Tomas (UST). Given the pressure laid down on his plate as a student-athlete, a rapture of enjoyment still kicks in. For our determined point guard does his priorities with the relentlessness from his core as the goals he has set for himself push him to achieve bigger from what is in store.
Who would have thought that the University’s ensemble would blast their instruments to the tune of Eye of the Tiger to honor and recognize the varsities’ hardships after so many years?“A lot of people are looking up to you when you’re an athlete from UST because athletes from UST can lead any group of people. They’re good leaders. They know what to do in times of trouble or hardships,” Subido said as he expressed the pressure a Thomasian athlete carries.
“Ibalik ang Korona sa España!” was chanted all around the University as Thomasians cheered for the athletes’ courageous match in their last season. Even if the crown was almost within their reach, the UST Growling Tigers will never disappoint us in bringing the University back on top. With this kind of moment, Renzo admitted that playing for the finals made his heart rush even more and that the beat of his dribble was heard by the PBA Team as he successfully signed the contract with Northport Batang Pier to pursue a professional career with them.
The growling Marketing senior extends his gratitude to those who have unwaveringly supported the team as he continues to hope that powerful support would rain all over as always, and prays that every Thomasian will work harder to keep our beloved University in its unending glory.
